For most of the moviegoing population familiar with Jonah Hill's work, his casting opposite Brad Pitt in "Moneyball" and the very positive, buzzworthy reviews of his performance that followed were pleasant surprises.
Hill himself told MTV News recently that he's as surprised as anyone when it comes to talk of awards buzz. But he is very grateful for the role and the new opportunities that have come his way because of it.
One of those was an offer to appear in Quentin Tarantino's new flick "Django Unchained," which he unfortunately had to turn down due to scheduling conflicts.
"I got offered the new Quentin Tarantino movie, and I can't do it because of my schedule," he revealed during "MTV First: The Sitter," which airs Thursday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. "Things like that are crazy exciting, different and cool. Being asked to be in dramas now, it's really exciting. I feel lucky to have the kind of career I have where I can do both."
Hill went on to say that the challenge in making the transition from comedy to drama is all about making the right choices at the right time.
"The reason why I think a lot of comedic actors don't succeed at transitioning into dramas is that they choose the wrong ones. For me it was about the right ones. It doesn't matter what kind of movie it is to me, it just matters what's going to be the best movie at that time," he explained. "I happen to read a lot more comedies that I think are going to be better than dramas. 'Moneyball' I think was a great movie, but could you imagine the first time you see me in a drama and it's just awful? It would be so embarrassing. So I'm just careful about it. Doing Quentin's movie would have obviously been amazing, but my schedule didn't work out, which sucks."
Don't forget to tune in to "MTV First: The Sitter" on Thursday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV. Hill will introduce a previously unseen clip from the film and chat for a bit before continuing the conversation online for a full 30 minutes.
